Long Evenings

The sea trout are starting to show up a little bit more now with a few grilse showing up as well, the best fishing is just around the corner. Fishing late into the evening for sea trout and grilse, to my mind at least is some of the best fishing we can do on our rivers.

Six sea trout where caught last week mainly on the South Esk, also Cortachy is off the mark with two salmon caught and returned. Gallery had two sea trout up to 3lbs one on a Stoats Tail and the other Dabbler. Finn Wilson Started the week off at Kinnaber with his 8lbs salmon on a black and yellow Gledswood.  The South Esk came up 1ft 6″ on Thursday and this would have been enough to get the fishing running, sadly though it did not stay up for long. Again like most rivers in Scotland we could do with rain for at least week. For now go down to the river and enjoy the longer evenings and hopefully connect with a fish.

Neil’s Week Ahead.

“This week past has seen some water and with it the appearance of some sea trout aswell. For best results fish in the evenings with lighter single handed rod and finer tippetts. Small tubes and the old hitch can work aswell, fished above a stinger like the Haugaer. The good old stoats tail in silver, black or pearl body works well, and can take a salmon too if they are about. A dropper patterns such as medicine teal, or a dabbler can work well too. Some of the best fishing is just ahead of us now! “
