Not fishy weather
At all last week with bright sunshine, very high tempertures and low water it was not surprising that very few people where out fishing with fish mostly caught in the middle of the week onwards. Gallery still managed a sea trout on Monday late in the evening and again on Wednesday evening, the weather had cooled down considerably by this stage. Morphie had a good week with 9 salmon/grisle and 9 sea trout most of which would have been caught later in the week or the morning or evenings. Stracathro are still catching a few sea trout, it looks like they will have had a good July aswell. I think all things considered not a bad week on the North Esk. I have not heard much about the South Esk, Kinnaird on it’s various beats has a had a Salmon fro the week. We where down there later in the week and there are plenty of salmon and sea trout in the river they are just keeping their heads down.
Week Ahead
Well at long last we have had some rain at the weekend with the South Esk coming up 2 ft 3″ at Gella Bridge and Tannadice, the North Esk came up about 9 inchs. This will most certainly get fish moving and cool the water down. On that note the wind has been out of the North for a few days this will help cool things down aswell. As for fishing maybe an intermediate, slow sink tip and flies with a little colour in them and do not be tempted to go to big. Hitches and sunrays stripped across thoughs lovely glides will or should work a treat. Coming into August we should start seeing a few more grilse so as the water clears give any stoats tails or small black and silver flies a swim.
