Not as busy
As last week as the water levels where dropping back down again, still there are some good fish are being caught. The sea trout are still being caught in relatively good numbers for the time of year, with some big fish being seen and caught. Balmakewan had a good sea trout last week at 7lbs (see photograph). Also at Balmakewan Dave Mercer had his first North Esk fish, a 5lbs grilse on a copper killer. As we are in that part of the river, Mr Wilson from Glasgow was fishing at Pert on the week being 15th August. He had very good sea trout tipping the scales at 11lbs which is a very good sea trout by any Standards. Gallery had a few fish last week 12,8,7lbs, the fish are certainly gettiong into thier spawning livery now. Mean while over on the South Esk Finavon Castle Water had another good week with 12 salmon up to 13lbs, they have had a couple of very good weeks and rightly so as the lack of water earlier did not help them at all. Inshewan agin is still picking up the odd fish, I am sure that the beats above will be catching the odd fish as well the same can be said for the North Esk.
Week Ahead
With the cooler weather coming in and rain forecast for the weekend up in the Angus Glens it looks like we might be getting some more water. As autumn starts to take hold that age old problem of leaves starts to come into play, while they do look lovely on a frosty morning with all their resplendent they are a complete pain when ened up in the river. A few ways you can help yourself and the fish is to fish singles hooks either dressed or if the river is bigger with your tubes. If fishing singles with tubes turn the hook upside down, the point will have some protection by thge way of the wing covering the hook. As for flies think red and copper this combination is a must for this time of year, one of my favourites in this combo is a Red Ally,s Shrimp with a copper body. I know I keep mentioning it but the Red Francis is also a good catcher of fish, if the water is clear you could try the black or green version. Others to try would be the Flame thower, Comet and the General Practitioner. Never forget Temple dogs as well.
