A Mixed
Week it was, with the water up then down and Thursday a total wash out espeically below the Luther which was running a thick chocolate colour. I suspect this is due to all the sowing that is being done at preasent with one report that the back eddies where full of slit and sadly pleanty of dead aquitc insects, enough doom and gloom! The days that did fish well fish did get caught with a lovely 22lb springer caught by Gary Chambers from Stracathro N.E on the Saturday. This was one of four caught that day at Stracathro, Bill Finlay 1 springer at 7lbs. Bill Cook 1 springer at 8lbs and Gary Chambers again 1 springer at 10lbs plus a futher 2 springers lost. A very good and busy days fishing. At the start of the week D.Morrison had one at 10lbs also at Stracathro. Moving down to Pert N.E they had 5 springers with all being peas in a pod at about 7lb-8lb mark, again not much would have happened there on the Thursday. Balmakewan also had 5 springers for the week most caught at the being and the end of the week, with lucky Munro Reid catching 3. As far as I know that is all for the North Esk. Over to the South Esk at Finavon Castle Water they had 2 springers on the Friday with the biggest being 10lbs. It seems that the being and end of the week was the time to be on the water, it just shows that the fish are there and when they are on the take good things do happen.

Week Ahead
With bright sunshine and a cool east wind will make fishing interesting. The rivers will be dropping but holding a little colour. Start to lenghten your leaders, watch for casting a shadow arcoss the water with all this lovely sunshine it is easliy done. Flies for the week in clearer water I like a Stoats Tail, if there is a bit of colour the silver varity, or a Stinchar Stoat with the orange hackle. The flies are just what I might use if I was to fish, if you have confidence in a fly no matter how silly others think it is you will catch fish. If the water warms up enough one could start to fish a Sunray or a Collie Dog, as we all know visual fishing is always alot more fun. I have heard from the South Esk that quite a few smaller sea trout have been spotted in the deeper holding pools, as time and warmth continue we should start to see the bigger sea trout move in. If last year is anything to go by the sea trout fishing could be very good.
