A Little more Rain
On Wednesday evening and Thursday morning gave both rivers a small top up, it was quite dirty but cleared up fairly quickly. It was just enough to get the fish to come in and I should think they are pretty desperate to get going and get up to the head waters. I have not heard of any fish being caught above the Loups on the North Esk yet, this is most likely because they have not had the water, though a few might have squeezed up with the one or two small lifts of water. Some fish are been seen in the upper reaches, Rottal Estate which has water on the South Esk up in Glen Clova, had a salmon of 9 lbs on Thursday caught on a size 14 Allys Shrimp. Kinnaber is cacthing a few fish with a fish or two coming of most days. The middle beats had a few fish after the rain last week on both rivers, fish are running to the deeper holding pools and waiting for rain again, once there they are just keeping their heads down. Inshewan again had a good week with the Lapinskie party having a good week with 11 sea trout a grilse and a salmon, all most on a size 12 stoats tail. John Mitchell the ghille at Inshewan has told me that the party lost alot of fish on the Thursday, so plenty of fish in both rivers.
Week Ahead
The rain came and went again, not much will have changed from last week. The week ahead is for more sun and blue skies not ideal fishing weather. So keep with the small flies and Sunrays, or go large and give a Collie Dog a swim it is a great fly for grilse. As ever fish early and late if you can, if you are going to fish late into the evening choose your pools and rest them during the day, it will benefit the fish and the fishing. As for lines a full floater should be fine with the way the water levels are. Try and keep wading to a minimum, watch for where the sun is to make sure you are not casting you shadow across the pool you are about to fish. While on the steath note when walking up and down river keep back from the bank so you are not a silhouette, if you can see the fish they for sure can see you.
