Low but Steady
Catches for this week were low but steady on the River North Esk.
River levels fluctuated throughout the week, leading to unsettled conditions; and water temperature remained low (less than 5°C/41F).
The first two catches of the week came from Luther Pool on Pert; Mr A Rankin caught a 6 lbs springer and Mr W Grant caught an 8 lbs springer 8 lbs. On Tuesday a 7.5 lbs springer was caught by Gary Chambers in Lower Dam Pool on Stracathro and an 11 lbs springer was caught in Boat Pool on Pert. There were no catches reported on Wednesday. Pert saw its fourth and final catch of the week on Thursday when Mr C White landed a 7 lbs springer from Boat Pool. Ollie Braithwaite caught his first and second salmon of the season at Canterland on Thursday and Friday respectively. The final catch of the week was made on Friday on Gallery; Richard Masters landed an 11 lbs springer from croy number 1.
The week ahead (2nd – 7th March 2026)
This week sees the beginning of meteorological spring! Rain is forecast for the beginning of the week and again on Thursday, with high pressure coming in on Tuesday and Wednesday. Air temp remains high for the time of year with a maximum temperature of between 9-11°C/42-51°F and a minimum of 0-5°C/ 32-41°F.
