The Rain
Did make an apprence at the being of the week adding 2 ft 6″ to the South Esk and only a few inches to the North Esk. Sea trout seem to be the prominent fish being caught at the moment with all the low water this is not suprising, Pert catches showning 19 for thier week. A few more grilse showing up now no doubt helped by the rain, still not the numbers that should be in and the ones that are in are on the small side for grilse. The two beats on the South Esk which are doing well are Inshewan and Kinnaird, Inshewan has alot of deep holding water and Kinnaird being down at the bottom, plus not much water going over the weir except when the rain desides it is going to fall.
Week Ahead
The rain came and went, so still use the low water tool box. Small flies all ways work a treat. Try small sunrays fished fast either by a down stream mend or bringing your line in fast. Think out side the box show the fish something they might not have seen. For example a red or yellow Ally’s shrimp, Bombers skating aross the top creating a good “V” wake. If the sun is bright and on the river give it a rest until later, it will be all the better for it.

Something I thought would be of interest, Fly Size and Water Temperature.
Lastly I should say thank you to the ghillies and guests who send the photographs to me, with out them the report would not be complete and certainly not as colourful!!
