Pretty

Much the same as last week but with the added bonus of a lift in water of just over a foot for both the North and South Esk. The fish are pushing fairly hard thoughout both systems now and will be found way up in the head waters were hopefull they can get some peace and quite. There are some bigger fish now being caught, Finavon Castle Water had their far share last week with two at 15 lbs  and one at 17lbs they must have been impresive fish when they entered the river. Inshewan had two salmon to 6lbs and sadly no sea trout, though I expect they have other things on their minds at the moment.  Both the bottom beats on the North and South Esk, Kinnaber (NE) and Kinnaird (SE) are still catching one or two fish, as one would expect for this time of year fish want to head for the hills and not hang around the bottom. Morphie had 5 Salmon last week . Pert had a good week with twelve salmon to 15lbs and twelve sea trout to 3lbs, with most coming to the Pert Shrimp and a Red Francis. Staying in the midddle of the North Esk all the middle beats had a steady week, still fish are being caught which is the main thing meaning that they are there.

Week Ahead

I does not feel like the being of October with the thermometer sitting at 15c ? It is raining which can not be a bad thing. Just looking at the forecast for this week there is heavy rain forecast for the middle of the week. So sink tips if the water comes up and the same short of flies as last week, Flame Thower, Comets, Red Francis Think autumn colours and you will not go far wrong. Just a quick note, our salmon have be in the rivers for quite some time now and as we all know without eating to replenish themselves. When you catch a fish play it fast if you can, fish heavier ie stronger leaders etc and when handeling take extra care. Make sure when you release them they are fully recoverd as now every single fish is precious.

Lastly I should say thank you to the ghillies and guests who send the photographs to me, with out them the report would not be complete and certainly not as colourful!!
