Warm Weather
Has been with us for a while now which is rare in Scotland and the wind when coming out of the east still has a bite to it. Fishing has been tough with only a few salmon caught, all on small flies. The Sea Trout are making thier way up both rivers with quite a few been seen at varoius beats on the South Esk as well the North Esk. The news on the rivers is that the sea trout are in fine form with a lovely 5lbs coming of Pert on the North Esk on the needle fly. Again with not much rain forecast and sunshine to boot is going to make fishing harder still, so mornings, evenings and light tackle are the order of the day. We need to seriously start thinking about how to hold onto water in our uplands so it does not just run off, there will be alot more on this topic to come.
Neil’s Week Ahead.
“The weeks ahead are more suited to early and late fishing for any success. Try any stoat’s tail type the silver JC version will always work for salmon and sea trout. I also like to fish a dropper at nightime for sea trout and that’s has to be a pearly dabbler or a small muddler. In the dark a jambo type surface lure will work and or the snake fly”

1 & 2 Woody Debris on the West Water at Stracathro. Wonderful for all fish of all ages.
Look up towards the Loups on the North Esk. One forgets how narrow parts of the North Esk are.
Lastly I should say thank you to the ghillies and guests who send the photographs to me, with out them the report would not be complete and certainly not as colourful!!
