The Best
Week so far this season with a total number of fish caught at 87 across both rivers that have been reported. I am sure that number will be higher if you take into account the private and syndicate waters. With the water up and down last week on both the North and South Esk a very good effort by all that went out. On Wednesday the South Esk had a big lift in water up to 8 foot so as one would expect no fishing that day and the river now is looking in great shape. This was much need not just for fish but also to flush and clean out the river there was alot of timber coming down river. Reports where of numbers of fish down at Kinnaber on the North Esk these now along with the residents are making their way up river and those wishing to view should make thier way to the Loups on the North Esk. Not alot of big fish where caught last week by that I mean in the high teens, Stracathro, Canterland, Kinnaird Upper and Inshewan had fish up to 10 lbs and Balmakewan and Finavon Castle Water 12lbs and 14lbs respectfully. Sea Trout are still being caught in good numbers for the time of year and these wonderful have done very well this year. Inshewan caught a lovely big sea trout at 7lbs. Great news from Finavon Castle Water with 11 Salmon caught on the Saturday, that is a good day by any standards. Over all a very good week had by all and hopefully next week be as good, keep those flies in the water.
Week Ahead
With a setteled weather and high presure this week combined with settling water the angling gods should be looking down on us? Again slow sink to intermediate tips and maybe a full floater all depending on how fast the rivers fall. Flies for the week Red Francis to gee up the locals in various styles again depending on where you are fishing. A Grants Orange fly with a red head which is a mix of orange and purple. If the water clears which by all accounts it will by the end of the week back to smaller flies, Stoats Tails, Executioner. Then if nothing moves go large Collie Dogs and Sunrays, be sure to swim the smaller flies first. In the glides a hitched fly might work wonders as well, look forward to hearing about what you all caught.
