Another Dry
Week was had and with the cool wind just to keep the temperture down. With rain forecast to come from the west at the being of last week hopes of a break in low water where hopeful, sadly nothing came of it. Kinnaber on the North Esk where the only ones that I know of that caught a salmon last week. The cooler weather we are having at this time of year is not making the fish play ball, I have heard that the fish are taking short ie not with gusto, may be when it warms up this will change.
Sea Trout
Are in the both rivers in good numbers with still more to come. Fishing in these low water and bright condtions means getting out when others are in bed. A few anglers at Stracathro on the North Esk fished in the evening to the morning, they where rewarded with 13 sea trout over few evening sessions, so fish are there you just need to fish the into the small hours. I feel that night fishing for sea trout is not as popular as it once was which is a shame because as the above shows it is the best time to fish for them.
Neil’s Week Ahead.
“Pretty much the same as last week I am afraid, small flies and hitches and the needle fly works well. Try to keep wading to a minimum if you can, fishing wellingtons will stop you wading deep!! If you decided to fishing in the evening try suface lure later in the evening such as a Jambo a large deer fly which is very boyant or a large muddler. Hopefully the grilse run will start in ernest soon usally around the first weekend in July, or the Game Fair weekend, fingers crossed. Remember day or night steath is the name of the of the game. “
