Still Cool…
..Up and down the rivers last week, we should be in shirt sleves at this time of year? I feel that the slow pace of the fishing has been partly due to several factors, one is very obvious lack of rain; the other is that we have not had a long period of warm weather, the constant eastlery wind making short work of any warmth. An up date from the farm waste spill a few weeks ago, SEPA have tested the water quality and given it the all clear so that is good news That is pretty much all I can say on the matter as it is an on going investigation. As far as I am aware no fish were caught on the rivers last week, as last week the fish that did show were coming short and I still have not found out why they do this.
Just a reminder that Pink salmon may start to make an appearance soon.

Please report any catches of Pink salmon to the Fishery Board.
Note: If any of the angling clubs or anyone else that has anything to report on the North or South Esk please get in touch via email with your catches and stories. The more we can show what is being caught on our rivers paints a good picture.
Thank you.
Week Ahead
Sea trout anglers are about to start their night time sessions and if the weather ever warms up good times should be ahead. Bigger flies for cloudy evenings and smaller for cloud less evenings, it always seems odd to tie on a black fly at night. Think about it from a sea trout’s point of veiw looking up at a dark silhoutte, black is the best colour for this job. If the water is low which it inevitably it will be stick with the full floater or a short intermediate tip, and if you have confidence fish with a hitched dropper. Make sure you know your beat that you are fishing, likely night time spots the long shallow glides, tails of pools. Try and stay off the river for as long as you can and maybe by 10.30pm you might be ready to go. Night time fishing is a wonderful way to fish for sea trout espically if the weather is warm and balmy, hearing fish splash in the pools, owls hooting and the occasionl expletive from your fishing companion as they contend with midges or those branchs that seem to get longer at night time.

Lastly I should say thank you to the ghillies and guests who send the photographs to me, with out them the report would not be complete and certainly not as colourful!!
