The Opening Day
Found both the North and South Esk sadly with very coloured water but anglers still had a cast none the less, unsuprisingly nothing was caught.
On Thursday Canterland caught the first fish of the season only just, Balmakewan caught one three minutes later.
Then on Friday Scott Rutherford came all the way down from Deeside to have his days fishing at Balmakewan that he had won only to fish until lunch time as storm Eunice was not making fishing particular pleasant.
Tips for the coming Week
“The first few days were blighted by high and coloured water which at times made fishing nigh on impossible, saying that you never know! Best flies to try include the good old trusty monkey tube in bottle versions and the conehead type. Also posh tosh will be worth a swim. When the water does clear the gold bodied Willie gunn and snaelda version of the WGFNS will work too. Use heavy tips T7 and T10 for best results and Skagit if it’s windy! Please before careful returning kelts, there are still quite a few of last year’s versions on the go just now! As ever listen to your ghillie for up to date advice on flies and lines and keep an eye on the Sepa gauges for water levels, with this snow melt they can fluctulate a lot during the day”
