Is the week when at long last the weather began to settle down a litte and with higher presure the rivers at a lovely fishable hight the springers started to make them selves known.
Tips for the coming Week
The water and wind made last week a tad tricky but if you have the right gear including thermal clothing, the fishing was rewarding! The lads who did best were fishing Skagit heads and T10 and T14 tips (15’) to get down to the fish. The Rio Skagit Max Game Changer in F H I S3 or the Airflo Skagit FIST is the way to go at the moment. Fly choice is not as crtitical as depth is at the time of year and you have to get down to the fish to get them to take. Best flies to try include the Monkey (bottle tube version), Willie Gunn Franc N Snaelda and Gold bodied Willie Gunn. All tubes. Going forward the water is likely to settle down a bit as the snow dissapears off the hills, it’s currently gin clear. Once it does drop below a foot on the gauge plastic tubes and shorter 5’ tips will work better. As ever listen to your ghillie for up to date advice on fly choice”

The lads from Stenhouse fishery in Fife had a red letter trip to Gallery last week, Jason Walls, Andrew Weir and Patrick Gray landed 5 springers in total the best at 13lbs. Fantastic fishing lads!
