The Week Started
By looking promising with great water levels and good weather, sadly the weather turned and by Thursday and Friday it was big high and coloured water.
None the less the North Esk managed 11 fish for the week with two large springers caught at Stracathro one at 20lbs caught by Ewan Maclachlan and another with an estimated of 18-20 lbs by Alex Davis who had come all the way from Dorset. The usal black and yellow coloured flies working well, so did a Durris Shrimp fly, Cascade and a Blair Spoon and a sunray took their share of spring fish.
The Coming Week
“Now the water is in a bit and its almost gin clear today, smaller tubes and plastic or alumnium versions should work. Willie Gunn and Gold Bodied Willie Gunn would be my go to flies just now. Also try dressed posh tosh and the famous cascade. The sunray shadow can also make a poor day turn into a good day, so make sure you have these in your box aswell. Lighter tips and 5’ polyleaders should be sufficient to get down. The water this morning was sitting at 1’ at Logie which is ideal, I would expect fish to be caught this week throughout the systems. As ever listen to your ghillie for up to date advice on tackle and flies”
